Shugo has been spending his spare time training with Sanzuro and Rena doesn’t like it. However, today is Tanabata day, a romantic day when when Altair and Vega met, and to celebrate, there’s a Tanabata Reach event later. Shugo isn’t interested until a blond knight named “Humi-yan the 3rd” (aka the Peacock King) offers Rena a rose. Shugo recognizes the boy as Kumiyama from his class last year.
To investigate strange matters, Balmung registers in this year’s event as a participant leaving Reki in charge. Yesterday, an inspecting operator was found unconscious and Balmung suspects the Twilight.
Shugo is joined by Mileyu, Hitaru, Ouka and Rena, who are all dressed in yukata (light summer kimono), with Mileyu’s as the rarest item. According to tradition, if they write a wish down and hang it on the tree branches, it will come true. Shugo secretly peaks at the girls’ wishes: Mileyu wants a rare item. Hotaru wants Poochi to grow up nicely. Ouka wants a strong enemy. Rena wrote something about family, but she hides it before he can read the whole thing. Kumiyami finds the party as they hang their wishes. When Shugo reads his wish – to have Rena’s socks – he rips it down, disgusted.
The Tanabata event is a battle royale contest. Reki will select participants randomly and the first person to overcome many trials and reach the stage will have their wish granted. If the person wrote a down wish impossible to be granted, they will receive free usage for one year. When Rena is chosen as a participant, Balmung suspects foul play.
The trials begin, but the fun is interrupted when a powerful special event whale monster attacks Shugo. Balmung and Sanzuro come to his defense, but it simply heals itself and sets its sights on Rena. Shugo eventually defeats it with a Data Drain. Rena takes a moment to shake Balmung’s hand to thank him, making Shugo the winner of the race and giving him the opportunity to kiss Rena.
Both twins find the kiss weird, but just as Rena is about to kiss Shugo’s cheek, the background screen goes dead and Balmung calls off the event before anything else happens. Before they leave, both Shugo and Rena’s wishes are revealed. They both want to live as a family again.
