Who are you?

I (Krista) am an INTP, technophile, book lover who happened to start a website as a freshman in college back in 1996. This site grew from there. A little about my background - I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with majors in Biological Basis of Behavior (basically neuroscience) and Religious Studies (focus on 2nd Temple Judaism & Christian Origins). From there, I decided I didn't want to go to med school or get my PhD in psychology and ended up with an MBA/MS in IT Management. Now I work in marketing. Yep, I'm 30 and still enjoy watching anime and playing a good RPG every once in a while!

Who else writes for this site?

James Balaguer, Review Editor
James first got into anime as a junior in high school back in the early 90s when friends were passing around a bootleg copy of Dragon Ball. Then, he saw Neon Genesis Evangelion and was hooked. He's taken several college classes on Japanese language and culture and enjoys action seinen and anime driven by Japanese history and culture. He's currently watching Shion no Ou, Bleach and Bamboo Blade. James also enjoys cooking, fiction writing, sci fi and fantasy, and video games (RPGs and fighting games).

Tiffany Chan, Staff Writer
I currently work in the online ad sales department at MTV Networks Spike Digital Entertainment: GameTrailers, Xfire, and Spike.com and I'm actively looking for entry-level marketing/producer positions in the video game industry. In my free time I run a webcomic called Big Fish Comic, co-create another webcomic called Somewhere in SF, and work as a part-time blogger for a video game peer-review/social networking site called VGviews.com. Of course, I love video games and anime!

Why'd you create this site?

My original website evolved into Deliriumsrealm.com. The anime reviews at Animetique used to be part of that site, but due to growing bandwidth issues, I created Animetique as a spinoff site.

What do your ratings mean?

I rate anime and dvds on a five star system. Yes, I admit to being baised. I rarely rate anything lower than 3 stars simply because if it sucks that bad, I usually turn it off.

5 stars = A = Excellent
4.5 stars = A-/B+ = Great
4 stars = B = Good
3.5 stars = B-/C+ = Average
3 stars = C = Below Average
2.5 stars = C-/D+ = Only watch if you have NOTHING better to do
2 stars = D = This sucks.
1.5 stars = D- = This sucks even more.
1 star = F = Stay Away!

How can I support this website?

Animetique.com is a hobby site of mine that started way back in 1995 and has grown to what you see today. It's not a commercial site and any money I receive through affiliate programs or donations goes directly back into supporting such a large website. This site receives about 40,000 unique visitors/ month!

If you can, please consider supporting this site by one of 2 ways. The first is to make your purchases through the Amazon.com links. I'll receive usually between 2.5-5% of all purchase amounts. The second is through the "Make a Donation" link via Paypal listed below.

Will you review -- insert Anime/Game --?

Please see my project list for anime that I'm currently working on. You can email me your suggestions, but chances are, unless you mail me the DVD, I won't get to them for a while (if ever).

I tend not to like mech anime (so no Gundam). Having watched all 6 seasons of Ranma, I have no desire to continue with InuYasha. I also won't be covering Cowboy Bebop, Yu Yu Hakusho, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pokemon, or Sailor Moon.

What I like - anime with deep religious/mythical and/or political plots like NeoRanga, Scrapped Princess, Serial Experiments Lain, RahXephon, X (TV), Escaflowne, etc. I also like the occassional Shojo (ie Fushigi Yugi) and some Shonen like Naruto and FullMetal Alchemist.

For video games, I'll play just about any RPG (PS2, XBOX, or GameCube), some fighting games, and some action/adventure/platform. I don't like first person shooters.

How do I contact you?

Due to the insane amount of spam I receive, I've decided to no longer post my email address on this website. You can contact me through the contact page or by PM'ing "admin" in the Forum.

Please be nice. I'm sorry if you don't like my review of your favorite anime or that you were appalled to find a spelling error. I will happily correct spelling/grammar/technical errors if you include the page url and a description of the problem.

If you'd like to submit DVDs/Manga/Games for review, feel free to mail me at:
