Alice

Alice is Lain's closest friend in the real world, and the one she strives to protect most. Alice is very friendly and tries to include Lain in different social events the schoolgirls plan. Alice also has her own deep, dark secret that Lain finds out about.

 

 

Chisa

Chisa is a girl from Lain's class who committed suicide in attempt to find a higher purpose to life. In the Wired, she no longer could use her body, so she killed it to evolve to a higher plane of existence. She contacts Lain occasionally.

 

 

JJ

JJ is DJ at Cyberia and seems to know the ins and outs of finding info in the Wired. He appears to have met Lain in the Wired and mainly interacts with her Wired personality.

 

 

Julie

Julie is 1 of the 3 schoolgirls Lain hangs out with occasionally along with Alice and Reike. She is kind of insecure and tends to agree with the other 2, sometimes teasing Lain.

 

 

Lain

Who is Lain? If you can answer that by then end of the series, good for you. Lain appears to be a shy 8th grader who keeps to herself and has few friends. She also has an online personality that people say is exactly the opposite of her real world personality - wild and confident.

 

 

Masami Eiri

Masami Eiri is the god of the Wired. His true nature is somewhat of a mystery - one that Lain seeks to unravel.

 

 

Miku

Miku is Lain's older sister who grows concerned with Lain as she spends more and more of her time online. Eventually, Miku gives up and slowly becomes more and more catatonic.

 

 

Tado

Tado appears to be a child hacker who is always hanging around Cyberia and may have connections to the Knights. At one point he asks the Wired Lain for a date in exchange for information.
