Elfen Lied Episode 3 Summary: Deep Feelings

Yuka walks in to find Kohta undressing Nyuu. She furiously lays the keys on the table and coolly walks out of the room after making a few sarcastic remarks. When he follows, she asks him if he remembers the festival they went to when they were little. He replies that he doesn't, so she slaps his face hard, calls him a jerk, and storms home.
Nana - diclonius number 7 - greets her papa. She's naked, drenched in blood, and chained to the wall, but she reacts with genuine happiness to see her papa. He replies that he needs her help.
At home, Yuka flashes back to the festival 8 years ago. She and Kohta were making animal cutouts, but she could never get hers to come out right. He teases her and remarks that if she ever gets it right, he'll do whatever she says. In the present, Yuka looks down at a box full of perfect animal cutouts and cries.
The observers note that Number 7 has been locked there since she was born. She's been through a lot - including torture - so she needed someone to support her and keep her sane through her trials. Chief Kurama became her papa and now she will do anything to live up to his expectations.
Inside, Kurama explains that he needs Nana to help him. A diclonius like herself has escaped and is causing trouble. She replies that she can't kill another living thing. He tells her that's ok - he just needs her to locate her. Diclonius have a natural tendency to sense one another. He then tells her that she's the only one who can help. Really? she asks. Then she won't let him down - and seems genuinely happy that he came to her with this task.
At the Kaede House, Kohta awakens feverish and can barely move. He asks Nyuu to bring some water, but she doesn't understand. Yuka drops off some stuff outside but decides not to come inside - she's still mad from last night. As she walks away, Nyuu spots her and drags her inside to help out.
Inside, Kohta mumbles about last night. What happened at the festival? He explains that not long after he left, his father died in a car accident and then Kanae got sick. It was just one terrible thing after another. She mumbles under her breath - but that day, you all got on the train - and realizes he doesn't remember anything about that day.
Back at the government lab, Bando is flailing about on an exam room table demanding that they don't castrate him. Kurama calmly explains that the fate of mankind depends on it. When Bando has a tough time accepting that, Kurama explains that Lucy is one of the diclonius - genetically altered humans. One of their mutations is the horns on the sides of their head. The other is their extra set of hands or receptors. They don't know much about them, but they are able to vibrate as such a high frequency that they can cut through objects. Still, they are skeptical that those hands were initially used as weapons, but since most diclonius die as babies, they don't know. Regardless, Lucy has found a way to reproduce by using her hands to spread a genetic infection. Her genetic future depends on the end of mankind as we know it.
I can't say that explains a heck of a lot, but I guess I'm suppose to conclude that Bando has been infected and anyone that he sleeps/breeds with will catch this infection, hence he needs to be castrated?
Kohta awakens to find Yuka watching over him. While he was sleeping, she found some clothes for Nyuu, who is now so kawaii. They briefly discuss what to do about her. Kohta thinks she should just stay here. Yuka decides that it's not a good idea for the two to live together, so she will move in as well.
Meanwhile, Nana is now cleaned up, dressed appropriately, and ready to go on her mission. Papa again confirms that he is counting on her - but if the job is too hard, she shouldn't push herself. When she's gone, he comments to his assistant that she has no chance of winning in combat, but she should be able to lead them to Lucy.
Yuka unpacks while Kohta completes his daily cleaning chores. Nyuu decides she wants to help, but in the process, he bumps up against her chest. Yuka catches the two in a compromised position and angrily storms out to go shopping.
As she's leaving, the girl with the puppy (Mayu) walks up to the Kaede House to return Kohta's umbrella. She found it the night before last. Kohta immediately demands she tell him everything she remembers about that night. Yes, she saw soldiers. He knew it!
Kohta and Mayu talk until Yuka returns home. As they fill her in, Nyuu continues to clean in the hallway. She soon is entertained by a music box, but before she can do anything with it, she slips on a rag and bangs her head.
While Yuka and Kohta run out to check on the commotion, Lucy has emerged and sends her mutant hands after Kohta - no one notices (I guess they're invisible?). She hesitates when she seems to recognize Kohta and pulls back before walking out of the house. Meanwhile, Yuka is fixated on giving Kohta this music box which apparently had great significance when he left it with her 8 years ago. He doesn't remember, to her dismay.
As Lucy storms off, she looks down at Mayu's barking dog, Wanta, and we hear an explosion.
When Mayu turns to leave, Kohta asks her some basic questions - her name and address. She avoids the address question and runs off after her dog. When the puppy is nowhere to be found (leaving us viewers with the sinking feeling that Lucy obliterated the poor doggie), her eyes go wide and she panics. Happily, Wanta runs to her - Lucy only cut the leash that was tying him to the fence. Mayu breaths a sigh of relief and heads on her way.
Kohta soon worries that Nyuu has been gone for awhile, so he's going to check on her. Again, Yuka mentions the music box, and again, Kohta doesn't remember anything about it. She then pops a strange question - referring back to catching Kohta with his hand on Nyuu's breast, she asks if he ever thinks about touching hers.
Cut back to Nana before she gets on the plane. Papa, she has a favor to ask. Can she have his tie? She's always wanted it. He removes it and hands it to her. She then affirm that she will make him so proud.
Nana walks up to Lucy, who is sitting alone on a staircase (possibly by the train station) waiting for her. Nana explains that they're going to go home.
