Nana confronts Lucy on the stairs and demands she come home with her. Lucy calmly gets up and turns. Until now, she's never killed a person and she doesn't plan on making Nana her first. Nana persists, explaining she can't go home unless Lucy comes with her, and forcing Lucy to step up the sternness of her warning. This time she uses her vectors and psychic powers to knock Nana against the wall.

Seeing no choice but to fight, Nana attacks and grabs hold of Lucy's neck with her vectors. She then tosses her into the stone pillar behind. Lucy tries to use her own vector but soon realizes she can't reach - Nana's vectors are slightly longer than hers.

Meanwhile, Yuka confronts Kohta about his feelings - why does he care so much for Nyu? Doesn't she (Yuka) matter to him? He tries to explain that he doesn't want her to worry so. Wrong answer. Yuka flies into a rage and punches him, crying about how long she's waited to see him as she runs out of the room.

Flashback to chibi Yuka searching for her childhood playmate, Kohta, while mannequin adults whisper about Kohta's current state. He's in bad shock. Chibi Kohta appears in front of her promising he'll see her next year before he fades.

Back at the fight, Nana explains that if she were serious about this fight, Lucy would have died three times now. Lucy retaliates by tossing several stone pillars at Nana.

Mayu stops in at the bakery for some bread crusts and chats with the sales woman. When the woman asks how old she is, Mayu replies that she's 13 but tomorrow's her birthday. On her way out, she bumps into Yuka, hides the bag of bread crusts, and quickly runs off.

Again, Nana asks Lucy to come home. Again, she is greeted with several stone pillars and wood planks being tossed at her. When Nana looks up, Lucy is standing above her. Nana blocks another attack with her vectors and then grabs hold of a nearby tree to swing to safety. Lucy quickly leaps in front of her, pounds her stomach with an uppercut, then uses her vectors to slam her to the ground.

Nana tries to respond by grabbing Lucy's leg with her vectors, but Mayu sees the two fighting and screams for them to stop. Startled, Nana pulls her grip, but Lucy takes advantage of the distraction and slices off Nana's leg and the fingers of her hand. She then tosses Mayu out of harms way before continuing to pull off Nana's limbs one by one. Now helpless, Nana calls for Papa as she lies in a pool of blood unable to move.

As Lucy prepares a finishing strike, a sniper fires from the bushes and narrowly misses her. (Don't you love snipers with clear shots that miss? Makes you wonder just what they're paying him for. I hear the Noir chics... and Madlax are for hire!) Kurawa appears on the scene, giving Nana the motivation to try one last attack. She reaches for Lucy's face with her vectors and refuses to let go. Now surrounded, Lucy waits for their next move.

Full of emotion, Kurawa runs up to Nana's limbless body and tries to comfort her. This puzzles Lucy, who asks why she calls him Papa. She thought his daughter was dead. Yes, he confirms, he killed her himself. He then turns and punches Lucy hard for all the pain she's caused Nana before turning his attention back to his ailing Nana. Lucy sees the chance to escape and quickly hops her way out of the battle zone before anyone can stop her. (You know, the cunning sideways and up escape route! Is everyone incompetent here?) Now cradled in Papa's arms, Nana asks if she's useless to him. She's sorry for this. She just wanted him to praise her.

As Kurama returns home with Nana in his helicopter, secretary Shirakawa calls for an info update and to give him the heads up that Kakuzawa wants to speak with him pronto. Meanwhile, Yuka goes into the bakery to learn that the shopkeeper thinks Mayu is homeless.

While on her way home, Nyu rushes up to Yuka, crying, and hugs her. Yuka immediately sees she's been hurt and bandages up her arm. As the two girls spend time together, Yuka realizes how silly she's been for being jealous of Nyu.

Kohta receives a phone call from the hospital and quickly heads over there to pick up Mayu. He's a bit curious to know why she asked them to contact him, but Mayu's stomach growls loudly so Kohta invites her home for dinner. When they return, Yuka has dinner ready. There's a brief moment of weirdness when Mayu asks Nyu about her fight but then chalks it up to just a weird dream.

After dinner, Yuka prepares a bath for Mayu and Nyu so that she can talk to Kohta alone. She explains that Mayu goes to the bakery every day and asks for bread crusts to feed Wanta. Yuka suspects she's been living off them. Kohta admits to similar suspicions and wonders if they should call the police. After spilling to Yuka what happened with Nyu on the beach, they decide against that and offer to let Mayu spend the night.

Back at headquarters, Kakuzawa orders Kurama to kill Number 7. She's useless to them now. The meeting is cut short by a phone call from his son who needs his research budget increased. They've made tremendous success and are close to completing the vaccination. When the son hangs up, he (the son) decides to look for the missing diclonius himself.

With tears in their eyes, Kurama and Shirakawa inject Nana with medicine that will put her to sleep. She realizes that they're about to kill her and says goodbye.
